Shreveport and Bossier City both have a lot to offer. Trying to decide which side of the river is better for you? Take a look at this breakdown and see five homes in each city for sale now.

Is Shreveport, LA a good place to live?

In our opinion, yes! We recently wrote about the top pros and cons of buying a home in Shreveport. Pros include a low cost of living, gorgeous historical homes, and endless opportunities for entertainment. Cons include that darned humidity, climate change risk, and crime—but there is good news. According to a recent report, the crime rate in Shreveport is going down.

We've also covered what kind of house you can get with a $300,000 house-hunting budget in Shreveport. At that price point, your options are wide open—and in general, home shoppers in Shreveport have many choices. You can land a character-filled historic home, an affordable starter home, a spectacular new construction property, and more in this city.

Wondering if you should move to Shreveport? It’s a good spot for you if you like:

    • A larger city (Shreveport’s population is around 190,000, while Bossier City’s is 68,000)
    • A low cost of living
    • A thriving nightlife scene
    • Lower real estate prices

Is Bossier City, LA a good place to live?

Bossier City and Shreveport on opposite banks of the Red River. They have many similarities, and together they form the Shreveport-Bossier City Metro Area.

However, that doesn’t mean they’re identical! Bossier City’s economy has been picking up a little faster than Shreveport’s, and real estate values tend to be a little higher here as well. Bossier City earns higher scores than Shreveport for health and fitness, and while the two cities have an identical Walk Score from WalkScore.com, Bossier City edges out Shreveport for bikeability by two points.

Still deciding between the two? Bossier City is the better choice if you want:

    • A smaller city
    • Lower unemployment
    • A higher median income (Bossier City’s median income is $47,103 while Shreveport’s is $38,413)
    • Higher home values
